Dr Ishani Jayawardina
Dr Ishani Jayawardena is a qualified Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and a passionate advocate of women’s health and wellbeing. Her goal is to provide quality, holistic care.

As an obstetrician, she ensures pregnant women feel seen, heard and supported from their first visit to their last – whether they feel excited, worried, stressed, or anything in between. She also makes sure partners feel supported and involved in the pregnancy, knowing how pivotal it is in bonding with bub as well as supporting mum.

As a gynaecologist, Dr Ishani provides up-to-date evidence-based care to help women resolve any troubling symptoms they experience.

Dr Ishani is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) and has completed a RANZCOG Certificate of Women’s Health. Since having her first baby, Dr Ishani has understood more than ever how important it is to have a trusted healthcare team throughout pregnancy, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.

Dr Ishani’s love for working in women’s health was sparked during her first hospital-based rotation in obstetrics and gynaecology as a medical student. This exposure really highlighted the delicate balance between a mother’s health and a baby’s wellbeing during pregnancy. Respecting this balance is what allows her to ensure all women receive exceptional care during pregnancy, especially complicated pregnancies.

Dr Ishani’s career pathway to becoming a specialist included medical and surgical studies at Griffith University in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. She has trained and worked at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Redland Hospital in Brisbane, as well as at hospitals in Rockhampton, Townsville and Bundaberg. She finalised her RANZCOG training at Gold Coast University Hospital in 2023.

She loves that obstetrics and gynaecology offer a satisfying balance between medicine and surgery. She finds completing a complex surgery and achieving good outcomes for women is very rewarding. In particular, she loves the doctor-patient relationship that can be fostered during a pregnancy, culminating in the very special moment that is delivering a newborn baby.

While time off in obstetrics is rare and precious, Dr Ishani makes the most of opportunities to travel. She has enjoyed trips to London, Bali and Tasmania. Now that she is a mum, she is looking forward to many more travel adventures as a family. At home in Brisbane, she prioritises her wellbeing by fitting a weekly gym session and Pilates class into her hectic schedule.
